Edge Computing Technology Enablers: A Systematic Lecture Study

With the increasing stringent QoS constraints (e.g., latency, bandwidth, jitter) imposed by novel applications e-Health, autonomous vehicles, smart cities, etc.), as well rapidly number of connected IoT (Internet Things) devices, core network is becoming increasingly congested. To cope with those constraints, Edge Computing (EC) emerging an innovative computing paradigm that leverages Cloud and brings it closer to customer. “EC” refers transferring power intelligence from central network’s Edge. that, EC promotes idea processing caching data at Edge, thus reducing congestion latency. This paper presents a detailed, thorough, well-structured assessment its enabling technologies. Initially, we start defining ground up, outlining architectures evolution Cloudlets Multi-Access Computing. Next, survey recent studies on main cornerstones system, including resource management, computation offloading, etc. Besides, emphasized technology enablers, starting Intelligence, branch Artificial Intelligence (AI) integrates AI models resource-constrained edge nodes significant heterogeneity mobility. Then, moving 5G empowering technologies, explored how complement each other. After studied virtualization containerization promising hosting runtime for applications. Further delineated variety use-case scenarios, e.g., military applications, Finally, concluded our highlighting role integration future concerns regarding green energy standardization.
